DADA LIFE

Taking a butchering knife and ripping it through a Michael Jackson vinyl as it's playing - that's Dada Life. Watching TV static for three hours straight with a smile on your face - that's Dada Life. Nobody could embed the amount of serene yet murderously good funk that inhabits and is, in its own, Dada Life.

They've just released an EP titled "Happy Hands And Happy Feet" with a few remixes and a 12" version. You can download it here, in all its electronic goodness, and check out the tracklist below. After that, download the original title track for FREE. Yeah, Swedish, John Cage=inspired hippies blowing up speakers with their bass is free.

_Tracklist::
1 Happy Hands And Happy Feet (12” Version)
2 Happy Hands And Happy Feet (Malente’s Wasted Kidz & Wacky Mix)
4 Happy Hands And Happy Feet (Alex Gopher Remix)
5 Happy Hands And Happy Feet (Moonbotica Remix)
6 Happy Hands And Happy Feet (Phatzoo Remix)

HESS IS MORE

Hess Is More is Danish mastermind Mikkel Hess, a drummer from Denmark putting forth his soul through a foggy, synthesized filter. Mikkel's music is like taking an orchestra and replacing all the violins with synths, all the percussions with Rolands, and all of the flutes with whistles and whispers.

I highly recommend walzing on over to his website and checking out the nitty gritty. Until then, here's my personal favorite song of his.

INTERVIEW W// DON RIMINI

I just recently had the opp to send over a few questions to the Don, who's on his Endless Party Tour right now. He sent back his answers in between gigs, and left me with an interview for you guys. After you check out the Q&As, make sure to download ravelovin' awesome remix he DJ'd up recently of the Young MC track "Bust A Move." So here it is, in all its glory - the first interview of '09 with DJ Don Rimini!
XXXXX
1 Make up one word to describe your music.
EvenMoreThanAbsolutelyRadicalSh*t

2 What is your mission?
To rave the world !
Spread energy, crazyness, dirtyness and… love. ahahah

3 Why did you originally start making music?
Because it is the obvious continuation for a deejay. ah ah ah
No Choice, I really couldn’t do something else…

4 Who inspired you the most?
Rather than someone in particular, my inspiration come from a situation…)
Everything could inspire me: a girl in the street, a movie, le cuisine francaise...

5 If you could party with any DJ, who would it be?
It would be really cool to party with guys like 2 many dj, Sinden, Diplo, Justice, Surkin, Tiga, Erol Alkan, Boys Noize, A-Track, Digitalism, Bloody Beetroots, Crookers, Dj Funk, The Horrorist (live), Green Velvet (live)...
They are not only excellent producers, but also brilliant djs. I love all their stuff… they play really hard!

6 What was your greatest party experience?
Honestly, there is so many… If there is one to keep… hum… Not necessarily the biggest. Probably "Nu-Rockers-Party" in Brussels - Belgium last year. It was my birthday. All my pals from Paris came to party. The club was full of hysterical kids. The dj booth was inside a cage. Mad max style… The club kids climbed on top of the cage then jumped on the crowd in awesome stage diving… incredible!!! Insane clubkids, hot chicks, wicked sound system… Everything for a perfect party…

7 Why does the world needs electro?
Because electro is like the air we breathe, without… we die. :)

8 If you could have one super power, what would it be?
Teleportation, to dj everywhere, all the time.
The world would be mine.
Endless tours for endless parties!

9 If you could have every person in the world listen to one song, what would it be?
Louis Amstrong – “we have all the time in the world”.
This track is simply the ultimate…

10 What was the last song you had stuck in your head?
Dance Area - "AA 24/7",awesome hook, always in my head.
And also my ringtone : Homer Simpsons spiderpig

11 Fill in the blank: I would die happy if ______
I produce the next Michal Jackson record…

12 What's next?
Too many exciting projects:
Two new tracks: for a discobelle compilation and for a fluokids compilation too.
Also two remixes for Dada Life and for Designer Drugs.
And, of course, touring again and again, with stops at Miami WMC and SXSW. I will tour across North America, Australia, France, Portugal, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, UK, Italy, Switzerland and Sweden. Then, when I’ll come back home, I’ll focus on my next EP, which should be released this summer…Anyway I’ll try. Stay tuned.
And have fun, push people to get crazy as me, keep enjoying touring, meet peoples, kids, make the best music as possible, try to step it up…

BUZZ BANDS @ CHEERS

If you're in L.A. this month check out the free lineup hosted by Buzz Bands. These are one of those situations that make me want to live in California. :)

Noon: The Donkeys — Sweet harmonies and laid-back indie from the San Diego quartet whose latest album “Living on the Other Side” came out in September on Dead Oceans.

1 p.m.: The Mother Hips — A heavenly marriage of the Byrds, the Band and the Beach Boys, the Bay Area quartet is working on a follow-up to 2007’s “Kiss the Grizzly Bear.”

2 p.m.: Adam Stephens — Sublime low-fi folk from half of the Bay Area duo Two Gallants. Adam will be playing his music with a quartet at SXSW.

3 p.m.: The Shys — On last year’s “You’ll Never Understand This Band the Way That I Do,” this SoCal quintet hit the mark with its high-energy take on classic psychedelia and blues.

4 p.m.: The Local Natives — Fusing three-part harmonies, tribal beats and shout-along choruses, the L.A. quintet is gearing up for the release of its debut album, “Gorilla Manor.”

5 p.m.: Red Cortez — Dynamic L.A. quartet, fresh off tour dates with Morrissey, brings rock ‘n’ roll that has the heart of a beat poet and the soul of a bluesman.

6 p.m. Harlem Shakes — Exuberant New Yorkers (OK, they’re honorary Californians on this afternoon) will unveil their triumphant pop debut “Technicolor Health” on March 24.

MY FRIENDS TOLD ME ABOUT YOU

Two years ago, Interpol released the not-so-critically-acclaimed "Our Love To Admire", and haven't been in the studio since 2007. Carlos Dengler, however, has made himself another creative outlet. The trailer to "My Friends Told Me About You", a film produced, starred, and scored by Dengler, has just been released. The movie charts a man's downfall spiral into a subconscious world of paranoia, fear and confusion, casting what looks to be a very beautiful, bizarre, and unique film.

For more info, you can watch the trailer, check for dates and read the synopsis on the movie's website, as well as subscribe to the mailing list. The film will officially be shown at the Anonymous Gallery in NYC on April 17th through May 5th. You can also stream the score on Carlos D.'s site as well as check out a few more orchestral compositions of his.

(((NOT COOL YET)))

Not Cool Yet is the solo work of Australia's Simon Taylor, a photographer/artist from Brisbane, Queensland. He's released a few smooth demos that seem to run in place; moving along while not really going anywhere. Nonetheless, he's definitely set his style and lain out a path to run on. His music seems to be expressed in the photos he takes, like the one above. He's vague, colorful and all around lovely.

OUT+OF+THE+CAGE

"Many years ago I attended a recital at the University of Illinois concert hall. John Cage was composer-in-residence that year; and, to the dismay of many, he had chosen to present his 4 minutes and 33 seconds (I think that's the title, or a close approximation). It consisted of a pianist sitting on the bench in front of the piano and playing not a note. At the end of the allotted time, the pianist (David Tudor, if memory serves) simply left the stage. Those who know Cage's work will recognize it as part of his theory of silence (as opposed to mere rests) in music.

At the University of Illinois, the concert hall was located in the music building, which also, on the upper floors, held the practice rooms. The pianist came out on stage to polite applause, seated himself at the piano, and proceeded to wait out his 4 minutes 33 seconds. However, somewhere on the upper floors, an aspiring pianist was practicing a passage from a Beethoven sonata -- the *same* passage -- over and Over and OVER.

But the unseen pianist found the passage no easy task. And so the audience, seated in the solemn silence of the concert hall, heard a distant....
A-B-C-D-E-F# [mistake] "Dammit!"
A-B-C-D-E-F# [splat] "Son-of-a-b*tch!"
A-B-C-D-E-F#....
I omit the other statements out of my respect for your sensibilities, but you get the idea. It was a stunning performance. The audience applauded wildly, and Cage himself professed to be pleased. And indeed, I remember this recital long after other, more ordinary displays of virtuosity have faded from memory."
